Zakk and Jack unprofessional and classless while interviewing Coach Kevin Wilson

Indiana head football coach Kevin Wilson is changing the culture in Bloomington. ‘Win Today!’ is his motto. Don’t worry about what happened last year or what you have tomorrow. Just win the present.

And today, well, Wilson is winning.

Kevin Wilson went on the ‘Zakk and Jack’ show on nationally syndicated Fox Sports Radio (but based out of Indianapolis) Thursday morning and before he even came on, the co-hosts were bashing him and the program.

Dominic Zaccagnini is a former FM personality and Jack Trudeau played at the University of Illinois (and with the Colts).

This is a tremendously busy time for Kevin Wilson and the IU program. The Hoosiers opened preseason camp Monday and he is focused on the team.

One of the duties of a head coach is do go on a sports talk radio tour talking about the team and the upcoming year. Wilson took valuable time out of his day to go on their radio show–only to be put down before, during and after the interview. The show put in a request for him, and once on, they totally disrespected Wilson and Indiana football.

Here’s how the interview went down.

While returning from a break, the IU fight song was being played a Jack Trudeau said, “When I played at Indiana, we didn’t hear this song very often. I don’t even remember them scoring against us (Illinois).”

Then Wilson was introduced and he said, “Not doing good as you guys. You guys have a bunch of jokes this morning. What’s happening.”

Then Zakk mentioned his hoarse voice and how he must be yelling at players.

Wilson: “No we’re yelling at media guys that don’t have a clue…I got some things to do guys, what do you guys need.”

Zakk: “You in a hurry to get rid of us, coach.”

Wilson: “Yes, very much so.”

Zakk: “Did he say very much so?”

Wilson: “Yeah, I don’t have time to listen to guys talk about fight songs and Indiana and no tradition. The tradition of 2011 is working hard and ready to roll. Preseason is going a good way and looking forward to Ball State and Big Ten play. So how can I help you guys.”

…”I just don’t like you guys being all over guys and cracking jokes. It’s not appropriate.”

The guys didn’t even let Wilson have the last word. They turned his pot down, and let him go. Zakk and Jack then proceeded to bulldoze the IU program and coach. Wilson stood up for himself and the program.

I take it you won’t even hear him on their show, EVER AGAIN.

After their show, Zakk and Jack filmed a video response on YouTube. As of late Thursday night, it was viewed over 2,000 times and had hundreds of ‘dislikes.’ Interesting that I wake up Friday to see the video was removed by WNDE (after plenty of feedback and negative comments) and replaced with THIS new video response dubbed, “the day after.”

[The day after the interview, the station and co-hosts just don’t get it. WNDE has changed their website background to the IU logo, highlighted the interview, and said they are proud Hoosiers. Click here for my follow-up column on Zakk and Jack using the interview for publicity.]

First of all what is the Zakk and Jack show? Right now, no credibility.
And to blast a Big Ten head coach that has done more and made a name for himself. Idiots.

Been out of town so I had only heard about the Kevin Wilson interview before today. After listening, these guys are two punks that tried to be funny and let’s face it, they didn’t have any credibility before this. Kevin Wilson was right for going after them.

Very good point. I’ve never heard of the show until then, and many others hadn’t either. Planned or not, they are using this poor handling and turning it into page views.

Do they realize he was their ‘guest’. You treat guests well, take care of them. They made a mockery of Wilson and his program and damn right he stood up for it. He runs a no bullshit team and will not take it from an old washed up nobody like Jack(ass).

You conveniently leave out where they call IU a great school, nice campus, send their kids there, love the fight song. They barely said anything bad and Wilson blew up. Does he not know how talk radio works? Does he not know IU has been downright terrible since Malory left, when then, and only then, they were average? Coach Wilson isn’t the only one with a job to do, and media doesn’t have to talk IU football. Coaches shouldn’t be burning media bridges before the season even starts.

First off Jeff, it’s obvious that Wilson was on the line coming out of break so the hosts should have been careful with what they said in the first place. Shows request coaches, so Wilson is doing them a favor.

Zakk starts out and talks about football and the Big Ten, mentions Five Guys food in Bloomington. Then Jack jumps in and says he never heard the fight song because IU never scored on them (when they in fact scored 52 points). Then he said he pays tuition and ‘great school’. But those come after he knocks the program, so of course Wilson who is on hold will be hot.

As for how the team has played in the past, Wilson doesn’t care and doesn’t want to hear about it. He had no connection with the program and is on to things his way.

There’s no question IU football likes the media coverage but not when treated like this. Coach Wilson could have handled himself better–however if you look at his twitter mentions and message boards from other schools, it’s a consensus that he did the right thing and the hosts were out of line.

I think it is funny that Jack T can be as hypocritical as he can be. I spent time around the man and am sure he can recognize jerk when he see’s it because he is the master!! I love how he had his feelings hurt by Coach Wilson and couldn’t let it go or turn the tide of the conversation! Coach Wilson is probably sick and tired of every knucklehead media guy leading into every interview comparing him to the success of a program he has never been involved with! Sack Zack and Jack!

    August 11, 2011 | 11:17 pm

Zack n JAck Show NEVER heard of them until this interview today! Don’t plan on listening to them ever again unless they feel the need to say sorry for the set-up job and making a whole bunch of drama where drama is not needed!
That may work in NASCAR but not in college football. Not all people buy into the media BS that goes on today and as a die hard Hoosier fan from birth i am very proud of how our new football coach handled these two JACKASSES!

I would consider these two’s radio career to be very similar to IU’s past football tradition. People haven’t heard about either. At least Wilson is sticking up for IU and the program. He is starting to change things for IU. I like the attitude of Wilson, by the way I can’t remember Illinois being such a great football school as of late, In the last 9 years they have only had one season with a winning record against BigTen teams. These guys are clueless A-holes.

It is amazing too me how oblivious these two guys are. I guess you can not blame them for being classless and unprofessional if they don’t know what it means.

Justify it however you want, but I am embarrassed for you and your station. Mike and Mike in the morning sound that much better all of the time.

My gut feeling is that ratings at WNDE are lower than ever…yes that is possible, and Z&J are just trying to create some spin.

He’s exactly the type of coach we need to turn this thing around and quickly I might add. I wish he’d said more. We weren’t that far from being bowl eligible last year and I really think the change in attitude as well as better strength and conditioning will make it happen this year. I can’t wait for the first kickoff. Circle the Illinois game on your schedule, they’ve got an old fashioned ass kicking coming. Jack will hear the IU fight song so often, he’ll be hearing it in his nightmares.

I love a Coach that doesn’t take any bs. You don’t just sit back and agree with them on how bad the program’s been. That’s why we hired CW. He will get us to winning football games this year.

One word for the Zakk & Jack team…….CLASS-LESS! I like many others on here, have never heard of their sorry station and this was probably the most publicity they have ever had, too bad the interview showed them as sounding like spoiled children that can dish it out, but can’t take what comes to them! I have never been interested in Indiana Football before, however, count me as a fan, now! Kevin Wilson will be loved by his players and fans for taking a stand against the classless DJ’s! Bottom line is, these radio jerks brought all of this on themselves and Kevin tried to move on twice in the conversation and the jerks have such thin skin that all they could do is CRY and WHINE!!! GET A LIFE JERKS AND GROW THE HELL UP!

Proud of our former Sooner Coach, he is just what Indiana needs! We were sorry to lose Kevin, but wish him well! We will be watching and rooting for Indiana every Saturday! These two jerks don’t seem to understand “you don’t treat your guests like the way they treated Kevin Wilson and then expect him to kiss your ass and agree with you”!

He is an effin football coach….what did you (Zakk and Jack)think he would say?? He is very competitive just like most coaches…..that’s what makes Coaches, GREAT! If Jack were a real athlete instead of a jerk, he would understand that!

    August 13, 2011 | 7:10 am

What a couple of classless jerks you two are! Instead of issuing a much needed and deserved apology, you try to justify treating your guest like a turd. Be grown ups, be men of honor, and do the right thing…apologize. You even lied in this video, like saying you’re sorry you have kids there, that you’re going to smear Wilson’s name in front of IU people, and you hope he loses. That’s just childish. Act your age. Right now, you’re acting like you’re 3. By the way, I’m not an IU fan, or an IU graduate. This was all linked to a college football message board I was on, and I was curious. Now, having seen this and having listened to the interview, you guys made yourselves look even worse with this video. Be men, and do the right thing. Don’t try to justify your stupidity. When you insult someone and their football program before they come on the air, you better expect they’ll be less than eager to talk to you. You deserved the treatment you received from the coach…it’s the old “you reap what you sow” adage.

Jack Trudeau calling someone classless? This is the same person who allegedly according to law enforcement provided alcohol illegally to underage guests attending a graduation party hosted at his house. Kudos to Wilson. I am sure if he knew of Trudeau’s run in with the law he probably wouldn’t have even done the interview. Mr. Trudeau has quite an opinion of himself. I have been a football fan my entire life. I watched Jack Trudeau. He was nothing special. He is not a coach or a recruiter. How the hell does he know so much about the process. He is just an arrogant person. I doubt if Ron Zook would even take a call from him!
True doe is what we called him when he played.
True doe should remeber that his kids go to IU so I doubt they are too willing to be seen with him at a game if they even see him anyway. But, as a selfish person will do, it is just normal not to consider ay consequences resulting from their words or actions. Also the student athletes deserve more respect than True doe gives them. College football is about the athletes and fans not the media. Wilson was a guest. He was ridiculed before he was even introduced as he is the head coach. He had no obligation to respond in any certain manner or at all if he didn’t want to.
Shame on WNDE for even employing such an arrogant and divisive personality. Now go find some underage kids to furnish some alcohol to True doe!

The truth is, if Bob Knight had come on this program (which he never would have, by the way) and handed those two a crap sandwich, they would have eaten it no questions asked, and they talked with glee about what a great coach he is and what a great program they have down there at IU. They thought that because Wilson is a new coach with no record to stand on with a team that has been sub-par for many years, they could say whatever they wanted. Grow up, act professionally, and realize that if you’re going to act like fools, you will be treated like fools. Also, this is the best thing that ever could have happened to these two yokels. Now every IU football fan knows who Zakk (two k’s, really?) and Jack are.

Has anyone ever noticed how extremely ugly Jack T is? His personality is as well. What a loser! Sounds like a real cry baby in that interview. How dare someone not go along with his zany attempts at comedy through sports. How amateur his journalistic skills are. Was only slightly better as a football player. Having played at perennial national championship contendor, he sure knows so much about how really succesful football programs work. When did Illinois qualify as a respected football program as far as winning even conference titles?
It is not surprising that JT thinks he is above the ules and furnished liquor to minors. Maybe that is why he is not a coach. Just another subject of Springsteen’s song. You know the one Jack, Glory Days! They have passed you by. Get over yourself.

I will call all my radio contacts to make sure this angry arrogant ex football player never is succesful. Evryone has connections somewhere. Thing is you suck at golf and your football career is over so your connections have been used up man. You don’t have enough money to get anywhere of real significance. Athletes who are coddled and cocky always have to face reality at some point. Reality for you is a lame radio show and absolutely no credibilty as far as swaying any opi.ion of someone in power such as Ron Zook. Your money goes to IU remember? You are plain dumb Jack.
