Meet Indiana’s 2012 recruiting class

Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean has made huge strides in restoring his Hoosier basketball team to glory. IU signed five guys in the 2012 class, covering all five positions on the floor.

Meet the new team below (in order of commitment):

Peter Jurkin
7-0, 215, center
United Faith Christian Academy (North Carolina)
Committed on August 9th, 2010
Scout: “Jurkin is a shot blocking machine, and a great athlete who really runs the floor well.”
ESPN: “Peter is a long and athletic post player. He has quickly made his mark on the American high school basketball scene. Jurkin is thin but very long. He runs well and covers a lot of ground with each step. He is best on the defensive end right now as a senior.”

Ron Patterson
6-3, 195, guard
Broad Ripple High School
Committed on August 15th, 2010
Scout: “Patterson is an excellent on-ball defender and someone who can make shots.”
ESPN: “Ron has an old school game. He is a good scorer that has very little wasted motion. He has solid form and a nice rotation on his shot. He is a good slasher to the basket especially going right. He is a good athlete and is able to finish well around the basket.”

What he said: “We’re going there to hang some banners.”

Hanner Perea
6-8, 210, power forward
LaPorte La Lumiere
Committed on October 31st, 2010
Scout: “Perea is one of the premier athletes in the entire country, and somebody who is a force rebounding the ball as well as finishing above the rim. His long arms and natural strength make him someone who is difficult to contend with around the rim on both ends of the floor.”
ESPN: “Perea is a long and super athletic Power forward. He excels in transition by running the floor like a deer where he finishes above the rim with flare over or around defenders. Perea has great size and not only jumps high but quick.”

What he said: “I’m officially a hoosier now and it feel good. now im really looking forward to next year and all the big thigs that are going to happen….We know each other pretty well. We talked about going to IU and playing together. Now knowing that it’s official now we’re going there for sure, it makes it even better…I’ve been working on my jump shot and my dribble. Taking my time with the basketball and my post moves. Everything’s going to get better.”

Kevin ‘Yogi’ Ferrell
5-11, 165, point guard
Park Tudor High School
Committed on November 14th, 2010
Scout: “Ferrell is one of the best floor generals in the country. His strength, quickness, and shot making make him a problem for opposing defenders. At the NBA Players Association Camp, Ferrell was probably the top player based on performance.”
ESPN: “Ferrell is a true point guard that has good strength for his size. He pushes the ball on the break and has the ability to get to the rim. He constantly probed the defense and penetrated looking for openings to make a play.”

What he said: “Signing this letter of intent basically gives my full commitment to IU. It feels great to get this off my shoulders. Now I can just focus on getting better every day, preparing for college and definitely getting ready for this upcoming seasons….What can be is definitely getting that sixth banner. That’s definitely the main goal I actually want to accomplish coming in to college is winning a national championship.”

Jeremy Hollowell
6-7, 209, small forward
Lawrence Central High School
Committed on March 14th, 2011
Scout: “With Hollowell it is all about natural ability. At 6-foot-8 with a great shooting stroke, a good handle, and solid athleticism, Hollowell has as much raw ability as any player in the nation. Add in that he is starting to make strides with his motor and as a leader, and Hollowell’s best basketball could be in front of him.”
ESPN: “Jeremy is a skilled small forward with a multi dimensional game. He has a solid handle and can get in the lane against most opponents. He is good at creating offense off the dribble also. Hollowell is a good shooter with range to 20 feet.”

What he said: “It’s official! I’m a Hoosier! Thanks to everybody who came out showed love! Today is life changing! Living a dream!”
