2012 Super Bowl host committee brings a touch of Indy to Dallas

Indianapolis will host the big game next year, Super Bowl XLVI (46), assuming the NFL owners and players agree to terms. The local host committee has made an impact all week in Dallas showing off what Indy has to offer.

The 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee sent nearly 70 representatives throughout the week. Governor Mitch Daniels, Mayor Greg Ballard and host committee president Allison Melangton have done any and every interview possible.

The trip provides top committee members the opportunity to see Super Bowl week in person, and analyze what they do and don’t like. Among the information the committee will gather includes setup, security, transportation, entertainment and handling the weather.

And there’s no doubt in my mind Indianapolis will handle the possible weather MUCH better. I think I’ve read more media stories about the weather, icy parking lots and a cab strike than the actual game. Dallas or North Texas if you will, has failed in adhering to the climate.

The Hoosier Hospitality has been tremendous on radio and television row. They have a huge booth displaying drawings of the what the city has to offer and will look like.

But the smartest thing they did all week, hand out Reebok knit hats with their logo on it in these frigid temperatures. There to the right you see ESPN personality Kenny Mayne showing off the hat.

Another special idea the committee had was for each of them to wear scarves with the Indianapolis Super Bowl logo on it, and take pictures with athletes, media members and other celebrities. While they can’t keep them, it has those known faces wanting more and certainly looking forward to their trip to Indy one year from now.

On Thursday, St. Elmos, the most famous restaurant in Indianapolis, flew in their world-famous shrimp cocktail and had a booth in Indy’s 2012 section. There’s something about free food that has been excited and talking. Media members dropped what they were doing and darted for the tent. Just another brilliant idea that saw everyone smile and brought attention to Indianapolis.

Local representatives, dignitaries and celebrities are doing all they can to get the word out about Indianapolis’ 2012 Super Bowl. The host committee is soaking in all they can from Jerry’s World, in hopes of making next years Super Bowl, the best ever.

Below are a collection of photos taken from the the committee’s booth (via Eddie White).

Please, Please, Please select someone to sign the National Anthem in 2012 who A) Knows the words to the song and B) contractually agrees to sing the song as written, not according to some artistic whim of their own. Last night was an embarrassment to the singer, the NFL and to Dallas.

I don’t think you have to worry about that. With Jim Irsay’s friends and connections in the music industry, Indy will put on a show. It’s still very early but I’ve heard talk about Indiana native John Cougar Mellencamp being the headline act for halftime.

Christina Aguilera’s performance was embarrassing. It’s America, sing it right.
