Jordan Hill arrested for reckless driving

Pacers free-agent signee Jordan Hill was arrested earlier this week for reckless driving. A police officer caught Hill, who was driving a black Range Rover, going 107 mph in a 65.

Hill was recorded at going 107mph on the Georgia State Route 400.

Hill, who was shirtless, was arrested Tuesday, shortly after 2 p.m. ET in Alpharetta, Georgia — north of Atlanta — and booked at the North Fulton Jail annex. Hill was charged with reckless driving and speeding. Because it was a traffic violation, he was bonded out rather quickly.

George Gordon, the Public Information Officer for Alpharetta, Georgia, told VigilantSports.com that multiple drivers alerted local police about Hill’s black Range Rover for excessive speeding northbound on the Georgia 400.

Gordon estimated that as many as 200,000 vehicles are on that heavily-traveled highway at that time in mostly an IT-based city.

It just so happened that two police units were nearby and Hill shot past them three lanes to their left going 107 mph. When pulled over, the two officers reported that Hill was very cooperative and polite.

“When questioned, Jordan said he was in a hurry,” Gordon said. “The problem with this is — he abruptly cut off a vehicle when he changed lanes before a police unit caught up with him — any number of variables could have caused him to lose control of the vehicle at that speed.”

Hill was traveling with an adult male in the passenger seat in the front, but he only held a learner’s permit so they had to call a third party or else his SUV would have been impounded.

This is not a good look for the 28-year-old. This arrest comes exactly two weeks after he signed a one-year, $4 million deal to join the the Pacers. Hill is one of seven new players to sign with the Pacers over the summer.

The team has remained out of trouble for much of the last decade and not landed in police custody. Team officials are aware of the situation.

“We have been informed Jordan was arrested for allegedly reckless driving in Atlanta, Georgia,” Pacers President Larry Bird said in a statement. “It is obvious we don’t condone this. We will address this with Jordan. This is a major concern of safety, not just for Jordan, but for others.”

Now is supposed to be the rare downtime for NBA teams, a time when most sneak in vacations. Free agency is over and training camp is two months away.

Hill has been assigned a court date of September 22nd at the Alpharetta Municipal Court complex.

The officer’s dash camera shows Hill speeding by in the far left lane and then Hill out of the vehicle and being handcuffed.
