Aaron Holiday signs rookie deal with Pacers

Aaron Holiday, Kevin Pritchard, Pacers, 2018 NBA Draft

Aaron Holiday, the Pacers’ 2018 first-round pick, is officially a member of the team. 10 days after being selected 23rd overall, the UCLA product signed his rookie contract on July 1.

The Pacers did not expect Holiday to still be available when they were on the clock. When he was, the last player still in the green room at the draft, the Kevin Pritchard knew Holiday was their guy.

“We felt like we really needed to have a point guard in the pipeline that could maybe at least step up to the backup role in the future,” Pritchard said. “… He has a chance to be a starter down the line. He fits off of Victor (Oladipo) well because he’s a great catch-and shoot. … That’s one of his real specialities.

“He’s hungry to play. He goes in the season behind Cory and Darren, but I see him competing for minutes. One thing you know about that third point guard position: During the season, you get a chance to play. I would shocked if he didn’t play some next year.”

Holiday, along with 2017 first-round pick T.J. Leaf, headline the team’s summer league team, which begins play on July 6 in Las Vegas. The Pacers’ summer league team features four UCLA Bruins: Holiday, Leaf, Bryce Alford, and Ike Anigbogu, who will not play due to injury.

Second-round pick Alize Johnson is expected to sign later this month.
