Andrew Luck to open training camp on the PUP list

Indianapolis Colts General Manager Chris Ballard met with local media on Monday afternoon and provided an update on franchise quarterback Andrew Luck.

Ballard said that Luck will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, but that he expects Luck to come off PUP before the start of the regular season. However, Ballard also noted there remains no specific timetable for Luck to return to the field, whether in a practice or game setting.

Ballard mentioned Luck has begun the throwing phase of his rehabilitation from right shoulder surgery in January and has not experienced any setbacks in his rehab. The next step for Luck will be getting healthy enough to practice.

The throwing portion of Luck’s rehab is critical though because as of the most recent update before Monday, Luck had not begun throwing overhand.

According to Ballard (via Kevin Bowen of Colts.com), Luck has been throwing a football since last week.

Other updates from Ballard on Monday include injury updates on safeties Clayton Geathers and Malik Hooker as well as defensive lineman Kendall Langford.

Geathers is also being placed on PUP, but will remain there for at least the first six weeks of the regular season.

As for Hooker, whom the Colts selected in the first round of April’s NFL Draft, Ballard said on Monday the former Ohio State standout is ready for the start of training camp. The Colts have high hopes for Hooker, who could be in line for early playing time in the secondary.

An update on Hooker came Tuesday via Adam Schefter, who reported that the rookie “tweaked his hamstring during conditioning test” and will start training camp on PUP.

Langford, one of the veterans along the defensive front, will also be placed on PUP with the option to come off at any time. The status of Langford and Luck is encouraging for the sake of each player not missing significant time.

Colts rookies reported to the team’s training facility on Saturday, July 22, while veterans are expected to report July 29.

Further reason why the entire coaching staff should have been fired this past summer because these guys have no idea as to what they’re doing.. remember, Chuck Pagano is the one that allowed Andrew Luck to play with an injured shoulder which required surgery.

I wouldn’t be quick to say the entire coaching staff should have been fired. However, things could get interesting after this season if the Colts fall short of expectations, whatever those may be, for 2017.
