C.J. Miles dealing with knee soreness, listed as day-to-day

Pacers forward C.J. Miles appeared in the first of six preseason games, back on Oct. 4 in New Orleans, but that has been it. Almost two weeks later, he hasn’t rejoined his teammates on the court for any activity other than stretching, according to coach Nate McMillan, due to a sore left knee.

“He didn’t practice today,” McMillan said on Monday. “Don’t expect him to practice tomorrow. So really, it’s day-to-day.

“I think he’s starting to feel a little better but he’s doing nothing with the team right now. Everything is with our trainers and just trying to rehab and recover.”

Two days after his lone preseason appearance, playing nearly 15 minutes, Miles didn’t feel right as he went through pre-game warmups and the team decided to hold him out. He hasn’t returned to the court since…

McMillan did acknowledge that scans were done, although he wasn’t sure whether it was an X-ray, MRI, CT, etc. When asked if there was structural damage, McMillan said, “I wasn’t told that.” The training staff plans for Miles to complete a follow-up scan later this week.

Miles being kept off the court has made it difficult for new McMillan to see his 10-man rotation in action. Second unit guys Miles and Aaron Brooks haven’t played much together. In the meantime, Glenn Robinson III has filled in nicely.

Robinson III, who has impressed many team observers in camp for the second year in a row, has averaged 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and is shooting 58 percent from the field through five games.

“It’s the nature of the game,” Paul George said of his teammate being kept off the court. “Guys go down, guys get hurt. Glenn has been playing phenomenally. He’s going to fill that role until C.J. gets back. And then that decision becomes Nate’s troubles.”
