The Indianapolis Colts have scheduled a 3:30 p.m. press conference Tuesday to introduce Frank Reich as the next head coach.
On December 31, Colts Owner Jim Irsay, General Manager Chris Ballard and the rest of the Indianapolis brass wasted no time in dismissing former coach Chuck Pagano and ultimately hitting the reset button in search of a new coach.
A search to find that person — one that reportedly involved interviews with a handful of individuals and an agreement in place with New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, which McDaniels backed out of last week — finally came to a conclusion Sunday evening when Reich was officially hired.
Reich comes to Indianapolis after helping lead the Philadelphia Eagles to their Super Bowl LII triumph over New England less than two weeks ago. He worked under head coach Doug Pederson as Philly’s offensive coordinator and mentored quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Nick Foles.
Wentz was having an MVP-caliber season before going down to injury, when Foles stepped up to carry the Eagles the rest of the way and earn Super Bowl MVP honors.
Ballard held a press conference last Wednesday to discuss the agreement with McDaniels that fell through and noted, “Your first choice isn’t always the best choice.”

Over a week into Ballard’s search for a new coach, I ran a poll on Twitter to gauge how Colts fans’ confidence as it related to the coaching search. In a small sample size, over 70 percent of voters put their trust in Ballard.
In addition, since Reich’s hiring on Sunday, most fans have expressed a positive reaction to the new Colts’ coach. Reich returns to Indianapolis, where he got his start in coaching as an intern under Hall of Famer Tony Dungy.
