Indiana adds Big Ten logo to Assembly Hall floor

As seen above (via Justin Wright on twitter), the Big Ten logo was added to Branch McCracken court for the first time in history. The move goes against what Indiana has been about — clean, simple and professional.

I presume the majority of Indiana fans completely oppose the addition because it’s a change to the historic and tradition-rich program. And I’m sure the Big Ten Conference was pushing all schools to display the logo on their floor.

I’m not a big fan of the move, but I do understand it. The conference is constantly about improving and enhancing their brand, so making all twelve teams prominently display the logo on their court supports their mission.

Alex Bozich of Inside The Hall reports that, “Big Ten logos are required this year for basketball, football, volleyball and wrestling and will be rolled out for every sport by 2015.”

Last season, Indiana added sponsors to the padding on the basket, frame holding basket up, chair-backs, and radio row at center court.

So what’s your take? Is it reasonable for IU to follow suit of other conference teams or is it wrong?
