Mad Ants announce 2017 training camp roster

The Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the G League affiliate of the Pacers, have finalized their training camp roster. They are bringing 17 guys to camp, including one player from tryouts held last month.

Among that group are the four players waived from Pacers training camp: DeQuan Jones, Trey McKinney-Jones, Ben Moore, and Jarrod Uthoff.

Two-way players — new for the first time this season — Edmond Sumner (who isn’t expected to play until January) and Alex Poythress are also included on the roster.

Training camp opens on Monday, Oct. 23.

The Mad Ants added three players to their roster via the G League draft, held Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon.

Round 1, Pick 21: Tra-Deon Hollins, University of Nebraska-Omaha
Round 2, Pick 47: Steve Weingarten, La Salle
Round 3, Pick 77 (via OKL): JD Tisdale Jr., Rogers State

The Mad Ants passed on using their fourth-round selection, the 99th overall selection.

“We got three guys altogether that have the commonalities of how hard they work and how smart they are as players,” General Manager Brian Levy said of their three draft picks. “They are Mad Ants type of guys and make our team, our training camp and our organization better.”

On Hollins, who averaged 12.9 points, 6.3 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 3.7 steals in two years at Omaha:

“He’s going to come in and work really hard and push our guys,” Levy said. “I think he’s a guy that’s going to surprise some people in this league.”
