Pacers 2017 Pre-Draft Workouts: Trevor Thompson, Ohio State

Ben Davis High School product Trevor Thompson was one of four guys with ties to the state to work out at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Monday. The other three: Bryce Alford (UCLA), Trevon Bluiett (Park Tudor and Xavier), and Vince Edwards (Purdue).

Whether it was smart planning, a way to stand out, or just his shoe of choice, Thompson wore Paul George’s black signature shoe, the PG1, during the workout.

“Actually, I did [plan to wear it], he said after his workout was over. “Because I’m good friends with PG. Him and my dad play at a Celebrity Softball game at Victory Field together.”

Thompson is a 7-foot, 255-pound center who’s trying to earn a roster spot at the next level. After graduating from Ben Davis, he attended Virginia Tech for one season (2013-14) but decided to finish his career at Ohio State.

In his senior season, he averaged 10.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, but some feel he was not put in situations where he could thrive.

“I’ve worked my butt off since my Ben Davis days,” he said. “I’ve had ups and downs but I’ve never let hit hold me down. And that’s what I’m going to continue to do.

“Just learning to be a pro every single day.”

Thompson signed with Thad Foucher of Wasserman Media Group, and so they’ve had him working out in Santa Monta with other pros, including Georges Niang and Orlando’s Bismack Biyombo.

“He gave me some advice,” Thompson said of Niang, who just completed his rookie season with Indiana. “He told me to keep working hard, keep pushing myself. He told me that I’ve had a really good month of training in getting prepared.”

And some of that work includes expanding his range.
