Pacers Last Week: Nov. 20 — Team visits St. Jude, players give back, jerseys retired for Youngs, GRIII travels

A lot happens each week with the Pacers and it’s not easy to stay on top of it. Introducing a new weekly feature, Pacers Last Week, which should help keep you up-to-date on all things Pacers.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

  • Rookie Edmond Sumner made it back to Xavier on Monday to see his former squad beat Rider, 101-75.
  • A group of 17 from the Pacers’ traveling party visited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital after arriving in Memphis on Tuesday. They toured the hospital and saw the type of work that gets done there. Six players were on the visit: Victor Oladipo, Myles Turner, Damien Wilkins, Alex Poythress, T.J. Leaf, and Edmond Sumner.
  • Al Jefferson and Thad Young will be picking up where Rodney Stuckey left off as host of the Pacers’ annual “Come To Our House” Thanksgiving dinner for approximately 1,000 individuals from Central Indiana shelters. It will be held on Wednesday (Nov. 22). Each of the guests will also receive a Pacers Holiday Pack which includes a Pacers hat, Indiana Fever scarf; gloves; Finish Line socks, and a variety of other cold-weather items and gifts.
  • And while in Tennessee, Memphis Mitchell High School retired Thad Young’s jersey Tuesday night. Thad, meanwhile, donated a new fitness center to the school.
  • Yates High School in Houston plans to retire the No. 0 jersey of the Pacers’ other Young – Joe Young – on Nov. 29th.
  • Joe announced that he will be donating 200 fully cooked turkeys to folks in the Houston Community.
  • Indiana boys Glenn Robinson III and Victor Oladipo decided on their own to to provide groceries to 200 families at the Christamore House, plus tickets to a game.
  • A small contingent of individuals attended meetings in New York for the NBA2K League, led by Kelly Krauskopf and Cody Parrent.
  • Second-round pick Ike Anigbogu was assigned to the Mad Ants for the first time. He finished with 13 points and seven rebounds in his debut Saturday night.
  • The Fort Wayne Mad Ants spent the day Friday in Indianapolis. They practiced at the St. Vincent Center in front of team officials, signed autographs for fans before the Pacers’ wins, and then were introduced during the game.
  • With the college basketball season underway, team scouts have taken in dozens of games across the country.
  • The Pacers wore their new white Hickory uniforms for the first time – Friday night in a win where they clawed back from a 22-point deficit to beat the Detroit Pistons.
  • The Orlando Magic will no longer host an NBA Summer League, which consisted of eight NBA franchises including the Pacers. It’s likely that the Pacers end up in Las Vegas, the primary site for summer league games. 22 teams played their in July.
  • They won in Miami for the first time in seven tries. Bojan Bogdanovic (26 points) and Myles Turner (25) each posted season-highs.
  • We got a “SMOTHERED CHICKEN” from Pacers TV analyst Quinn Buckner. (See below).
  • Turner met actor Matthew McConaughey, pride of the University of Texas.
  • GRIII is not only off crutches, but he traveled with the team (to Florida) for the first time since undergoing left ankle surgery about six weeks ago.
  • Pacers having a winning record (9-8) for the first time since Nov. 3, when they were 5-4.
