Pete Philo leaves Pacers scouting department

With six weeks to go before the 2016 NBA Draft, scouts around the league continue with their evaluations and in adding relevant information to the prospect binders while team executives sort through it all and make their own evaluations.

Pete Philo was with the Pacers for nearly three years.

Pete Philo was with the Pacers for nearly three years.

The Pacers, however, are doing so with one less resource.

Pete Philo, their Director of International Scouting for the past three years, has moved on, league sources informed VigilantSports.com.

Philo can now focus on his growing business, TPG Sports Group, which has put on successful events like the Pro Scout School, Sports Agent School, and Sports Tank (yes, similar to Shark Tank).

Philo was hired in the summer of 2013 after working for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He also previously played an important role in putting on the annual pre-draft EuroCamp in Treviso, Italy.

Philo, who led the way with scouting overseas, has previously been in the war room on draft night. It’s likely that overseas scout Aleksandar Pajovic will pick up the extra workload. The team’s scouting department consists of nine individuals, according to the staff directory.

Larry Bird, Kevin Pritchard, Peter Dinwiddie, and Ryan Carr, the Director of Scouting, are among the Pacers officials currently in Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine.

Pre-draft workouts at Bankers Life Fieldhouse are expected to begin next week after the combine.

UPDATE: May 18, 2016 – 8:35 pm

An update to the staff directory confirms that Philo is no longer employed by Pacers Sports & Entertainment.
