Teague, Young, Evans officially Pacers — Larry Bird offers his thoughts

On the first day after the NBA’s moratorium, the Pacers announced the completion of three trades.

First, the Pacers completed a three-team deal that brought Jeff Teague, the former Pike High School standout, to his hometown team. However, it required the Pacers to move on from George Hill after five seasons.

“We want to thank George for his five seasons with us,” Pacers President Larry Bird said in the release. “He’s a great guy who did a lot for the community. We wish him nothing but the best.

“With Jeff, we think he brings something we haven’t had in a true point guard. We think he fits in with what we’re trying to do. He has speed, the ability to create for others and he can score. We look forward to working with him.”

The next day — Draft Day 2016 — Indiana traded its first-round pick (No. 20) and a future second-rounder to the Brooklyn Nets for the rights to veteran forward Thad Young.

“Thaddeus is a long, athletic power forward who can defend multiple positions,” Bird said. “He was a 15-point scorer last year and averaged nine rebounds a game. We think he’s a good fit between Myles (Turner) and Paul (George).”

Finally, the Pacers received Jeremy Evans, cash, and the rights to Emir Preldzic for the rights to Stank Barac — essentially allowing the Dallas Mavericks to clear cap space for their offseason moves.

“Jeremy is big and athletic,” Bird added. “We’re anxious to get him here to put him through our strength and conditioning program. We know he’ll be a good fit with the players we have.”

With No. 0 taken by C.J. Miles, Teague will wear 44 — his high school number.

Young will wear No. 21.

Bird and head coach Nate McMillan are scheduled to discuss these acquisitions Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET.
