Texas Rangers fan falls nearly 20 feet going after baseball

The highs and lows of sports.

Sometimes sports can be tragic. For one baseball fan Thursday night, a potential souvenir cost him his life.

According to reports, after Conor Jackson of the Oakland Athletics hit a foul ball to left, a Texas Rangers fan yelled at Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton for the foul ball. Hamilton eventually threw the ball the fans way and he caught it, but fell nearly 20 feet onto concrete. He was taken off in a stretcher and later died.

It truly is a sad story for his fan, his family Josh Hamilton and the Texas Rangers organization.

“We had a very tragic accident tonight and one of our fans lost their life reaching over the rail trying to get a ball,” Rangers President Nolan Ryan said. “As an organization, and as our team members and our staff, we’re very heavy-hearted about this, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”
