VIDEO: Paul George working out daily

Paul George is gearing up for a new season. All of the Pacers are. As I dropped by Bankers Life Fieldhouse Thursday morning, I saw from the Entry Pavilion a number of guys down on the practice floor getting work in — 27 days (Sept. 29) before they open camp.

For George, a two-time NBA All-Star, it’s about getting back to being himself — one of the best two-way players in the league. It’s about playing healthy, returning to the starting lineup, and getting the Pacers back into the playoffs.

George opted not to physically participate in USA Basketball mini-camp last month, instead returning to Indy after meeting with Team USA Managing Director Jerry Colangelo and head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Team chemistry this upcoming season will be an ongoing storyline. George must take a leadership role, even if it’s simply by example.

So far, so good. Young guys like Glenn Robinson III and the team’s three rookies – Myles Turner, Joe Young, and Rakeem Christmas – have seen George at the Fieldhouse daily … so there’s no reason for them not to be as well.

The majority of the team plans to gather in Indianapolis next week, after Labor Day, in the weeks leading up to the start of the 2015-16 campaign. They’re getting an early start, which is particularly important with so many new pieces.
