Reggie Miller stepped in as a guest host of “The Dan Patrick Show” Tuesday morning as Dan Patrick is working the 2016 Rio Olympics with NBC.

Working inside their Los Angeles studios, the former Pacer did a nice job filling in for three hours of radio that is heard across the country and seen on television, which is why he is sharply dressed.

Pacers President Larry Bird, who coached Reggie for three seasons (1997-2000), called in for a segment. Other guests included Summer Sanders, John Stockton, and Patrick Ewing.

Key points from his conversation with Bird:

  • Reggie shoving Michael Jordan, then hitting the game-winning shot in the 1998 NBA Playoffs.
  • Bird says he appreciates players who attack late in games, like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Russell Westbrook.
  • Bird touched on the increased focus on the 3-point shot.
  • “The kid just keeps getting better and better,” Bird said of Paul George. “He’s a hard worker. He’s dedicated to his craft.”
  • Bird has been texting Paul in Rio “off and on.”
  • Bird shares stories from the 1992 Dream Team.
  • His goal for next season is to average 106 points per game and is hopeful that they can run “a little bit more.”
  • “We expect to defend well but we want to get out and get open a little bit, and maybe hit more threes.”
  • Who would win a 3-point contest in their prime: Larry or Reggie? Reggie goes with Larry Legend.
  • Bird confirms that he asked, “Who’s finishing second?” before winning an All-Star 3-point shootout.
