Watford, Sheehey square off in D-League game in Ft. Wayne

In less than a week’s time, two more notable former Indiana basketball players will reunite for a basketball game.

On Friday, it was Victor Oladipo (Orlando Magic) and Cody Zeller (Charlotte Hornets) in New York City at All-Star Weekend and in the Rising Stars Challenge. In that game, USA vs the World, the former Hoosiers were teammates.

Former IU basketball players Will Sheehey and Christian Watford battle Tuesday night in Fort Wayne.

Tuesday night up in Fort Wayne, Christian Watford and Will Sheehey’s teams face off against one another. Both are playing in the NBA’s Developmental League — Watford with the Maine Red Claws, Sheehey with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Watford sat in the first row behind IU’s bench Sunday night to see his college team pummel Minnesota, 90-71.

The Mad Ants are promoting the game as “Hoosier Hysteria Night.” Fans wearing IU gear at the Memorial Coliseum box office will receive 50 percent off their tickets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Also of note, Seth Cooper, the ex-IU assistant strength and conditioning coach, is an assistant for the Red Claws.

Watford has appeared in 22 games, and averaged 12.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He’s shooting 39 percent from the floor. Sheehey, meanwhile, has played in just four games after returning from a stint overseas. In those four contests, he’s contributed an average of 9.3 points and 3.5 rebounds, and connected on 46.7 percent of his shots.
