The incredible rookie journey for Yogi Ferrell got even better Monday when the NBA announced that he was named to the All-Rookie Second Team.
Even better, the four others players on the second team were first-round selections, whereas Ferrell did not hear his name called during the 2016 NBA Draft.
Ferrell, a product of Park Tudor and Indiana University, signed a training camp deal with the Brooklyn Nets, with a guarantee of $100,000. The lowly Nets, who finished with the league’s worst record (20-62), called him up from the Development League for 10 games before sending him back down.

In January, the Dallas Mavericks decided to give young guys a shot in an effort to get a better draft pick while also seeing talent grow.
And that’s exactly what Ferrell did, signing for the rest of the season on February 7 for $207,798. In all, he appeared in 46 NBA games during his rookie campaign, starting in 29 of 36 games in Dallas. He averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.8 rebounds during that stint. He was even named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for games played in February.
The Mavericks own a team option on Ferrell’s contract, which they plan to pick up, for $905,249.
