Rockets sign Troy Williams for the rest of the season

Former IU forward Troy Williams hasn’t even played a game for the Houston Rockets, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t intrigued by his potential.

The Rockets (48-22), who have the third-best record in the Western Conference, signed Williams for the rest of the season on Monday.

The rookie has appeared in 24 NBA games this season, all with the Memphis Grizzlies. He has since played in 28 Development League games, including the last five with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. His first 23 D-League games were with the Iowa Energy, the Memphis Grizzlies’ affiliate.

The Rockets first signed Williams, the D-League Slam Dunk champion, to a 10-day contract worth $31,969 on March 10th. They then assigned them to the Valley Vipers, their D-League affiliate. He went on to average 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting an impressive 52.8 percent from the field.
