Broadcasting the IU exhibition game Saturday with Eric Gordon

When I came to Indiana University four years ago, I had no idea of the opportunities ahead of me. Saturday, I will accomplish another one of my life-long career goals before I’m even out of college.

Last year, I filled in for Joe Smith in the IU Radio Network broadcast of the Indiana-Akron football game. Not only was I on the network I grew up listening to, but I shared the booth with a legend and one of my mentors, Don Fischer.

I have been on the broadcast of Hoosier Hysteria for the last two seasons but there’s nothing like calling a game. On Saturday, I will be broadcasting the Indiana men’s basketball exhibition game against the University of Indianapolis at 7 pm. It will stream live on BTN.com (subscription requred) and air delayed on the linear network Tuesday, November 8th, at 2 pm. (Click here to watch)

This is part of the Big Ten Network’s Student U program and their initiative to highlight their online packages. The U of Indy game is the first of three IU games only available live on BTN.com.

The broadcast is going to be fun. First and foremost, Indiana fans are anxious to see this new look team play competitively and the impact of freshman Cody Zeller.

Joined with former IU player Eric Gordon on the broadcast, I hope fans will learn first hand about this team and what it’s like to play basketball at Indiana. Because the NBA lockout is going on, both Eric and DJ White have been working out a lot in Bloomington with the team.

There is nothing like calling a game at the historic Assembly Hall, with over 17,000 Hoosiers fans cheering the cream and crimson on.

EJ and I both went to North Central High School in Indianapolis so there is a lot of familiarity there. I called every one of his games junior and senior year for our high school station, 89.3 WJEL.

Indiana has much better talent and they finally have some experience on their roster, led by five seniors. This will be fourth-year head coach Tom Crean’s first class that he sees all the way through graduation.

Tune in Saturday for your first good look at the 2011-12 Indiana Hoosiers and to hear Eric Gordon, the 2007 Indiana Mr. Basketball, commentate on the broadcast.
