Conseco Fieldhouse now Bankers Life Fieldhouse

The home of the Indiana Pacers now has a new name. CNO Financial Group (formerly known as Conseco) has opted to rename Conseco Fieldhouse, now Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The change comes a couple years after Conseco went through bankruptcy and changed their company name for a new image.

The Fieldhouse, which cost Indianapolis about $183 million, opened in November of 1999 and has hosted dozens of big events in addition to the usual games and concerts.

Much like with the old RCA Dome, most people still referred to it as its original name, the Hoosier Dome. Change is tough, and despite the signage costs of about $1 million, it makes sense.

I understand why CNO made a name change. Since Conseco no longer exists, they were getting very little return on their investment. And with the Super Bowl coming in February, if they were going to make a change it had to be before then.

So, Bankers Life Fieldhouse it is. Yeah, that’s going to take some time to get used to.
