The NBA is getting younger and younger. With the New York Knicks hiring first-time head coach Derek Fisher, who’s season and point guard duties ended just 10 days ago with Oklahoma City, Pacers coach Frank Vogel is on the verge of dropping out of the top five youngest coaches in the league.
From the video room to being assistant coach, Vogel was just 37-years-old when he became the Pacers’ interim coach at the end of January of 2011. At that moment, he was the youngest of 30 head coaches in The Association. That summer, in July, Vogel was 38 when the interim tag was removed.
Since then, now three summers later, there are four other coaches younger than Indiana’s leader. Zionsville, Ind.’s own Brad Stevens, 37, remains in front by a nice distance.
When Jason Kidd made the bold move from wearing a jersey to directing a team, Brooklyn, last summer, he was older than Vogel but didn’t have any experience.
Age is just a number, right?
