I wrote last week how Pacers head coach Frank Vogel was entering the final year of his contract.
As of mid-August, Pacers President Larry Bird said that he had yet to even speak with owner Herb Simon about the subject. Since, there has been some movement between Pacers officials and Vogel’s rep, but no deal has been agreed upon.
It’s unlikely that the Pacers would go in a different direction. Vogel (167-100), who is well-respected both locally and around the league, has been a tremendous ambassador for the team and the city — in addition to being a reputable coach. He is a personable guy who is very hard working and knows the game extremely well.
Vogel has said on the record that he doesn’t feel any more pressure that comes with being one of just 30 NBA head coaches. In an instant a team could go in a different direction.
He does, however, feel “very good” about being the head coach of the Pacers for a long time, and that’s exactly what he wants.
It’d be best for everyone to get something done before the regular season begins on Oct. 29.
