On Tuesday, I finally got my first look at the newly renovated Fairgrounds Coliseum (formerly the ‘Pepsi Coliseum’).
And wow, it was spectacular.
The place was busy with people, IUPUI men’s basketball fans who were scurrying around the building looking for their desired seat location for season tickets. There are more than 6,500 seats with the current setup, up from 1,215 at The Jungle, the team’s previous home floor.
The coliseum even has a bar just above the club level at center court. I can say with 100 percent confidence that it’ll be a big hit.
Indianapolis is fortunate to have numerous world-class sports facilities: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Fairgrounds Coliseum, and Hinkle Fieldhouse — the latter two receiving a facelift.
Even if you’re not a fan of IUPUI men’s basketball or the Indy Fuel, the ECHL minor league that’ll soon make their debut, there’s no reason not to go to a game or two to both check out the facility and support the local teams.
