[UPDATE: Jan. 27: Because TNT opted not to televise the game, the Flo-Jos will not be worn against the Knicks, Instead, they’ll break them out next week]
The Pacers will take the court for their January 29th game against the New York Knicks in a new uniform.
New for them, but not for the franchise.
They will wear their Flo-Jos, named for designer Florence Griffith-Joyner. The team hired the Olympic Sprint Champion prior to the 1990-91 season to create a new look for the team.
The Pacers wore them through the end of the 1996-97 season, a season in which they failed to qualify for postseason play (after seven straight appearances). Then, it was on to the pinstripes (my favorite) until 2005.
So, Pacers vs. Knicks – with the home team wearing the Flo-Jos. And there’s a chance Reggie Miller could be in the building (which would be all too perfect to resemble their heated meetings of the 90s) — as the game airs in primetime (8 p.m. ET) on TNT.
Select jerseys are not yet available in the team’s official gift shop, but they will be soon.
Toronto has already worn their sweet throwback jerseys from the 90s, and the Sacramento Kings broke theirs out (and won) when they hosted the Pacers to town on December 5th.
An offseason report from SportsLogos.net first linked these three teams to wearing throwback uniforms.
