With school out — at least for most kiddos — some children need something to do. Others want to get better, and teenagers are working to elevate their game.

For basketball players, a great camp kids K-12 can partake in is Eric Gordon’s annual camp. Each summer since leaving Indiana University in 2008 after one year and entering his name into the NBA Draft, the North Central High School product has put on a basketball camp at the JCC of Indianapolis, which is essentially in the backyard of his family’s home.
“This is always one of the highlights of my summer!” the New Orleans Pelican guard tweeted.
Gordon finally got his first taste of the NBA Playoffs in April. Now, he has a new coach, Alvin Gentry.
The three-day camp at the JCC is always family affair. EJ’s younger brothers (Evan and Eron) help put on the camp.
It will run from Monday, June 8th to Wednesday the 10th and cost $225 (or $200 for JCC members). In the morning, campers will be put through drills and also scrimmage. After lunch, the emphasis will move to shooting, ball-handling, agility, and teamwork.

Gordon’s father, Eric Sr., provides daily instruction in the JCC gym. In addition to the usual activities, he’s doing more off-the-court training to increase flexibility, functional movement, and overall athleticism.
On Wednesday, the final day, parents and families are welcome to watch them scrimmage. Campers will all receive a written evaluation to take home.
