After losing in the NCAA National Championship Game, four-year big man Brice Johnson turned his attention to the draft. He said it’s something you never get over, but now the 21-year-old is just days away from being hired by an NBA team seeking his services.
The 2016 NBA Draft is set for Thursday night in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center, and the Pacers have picks 20 and 50.
They have brought in nearly 50 prospects to meet and evaluate both for the draft and future considerations. Johnson was one of six in the final workout session, a group highlighted by local product Yogi Ferrell.
Johnson, who plans to be in New York on draft night (but will not be in the Green Room), is a four-year guy coming out of North Carolina. He’s gone through about 10 ten pre-draft workouts for various teams, concluding on Saturday in Boston.
In his special senior season, Johnson averaged 17 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 locks per game. He connected on 61.4 percent of his field goals. For the Pacers who need help at power forward, all that and more makes Johnson an intriguing selection.
He’ll need to add weight — and he knows that — but his focus has been on the workouts for the last two months or so.
