Pacers 2017 Pre-Draft Workouts: Donovan Mitchell, Louisville

Donovan Mitchell will be in the Green Room for the upcoming 2017 NBA Draft. He’s fired up about that.

Even more so, he’s looking forward to the next chapter in his basketball career. Mitchell is first-round talent, coming out of a great Louisville basketball program. He praised coach Rick Pitino for the program, his intensity and level of detail at which they operated.

He’s a pesky point guard, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing just over 200 bills. Mitchell, who’s 20, was the Cardinals best player last season. He helped them finish second in the ACC and reach the second-round of the NCAA Tournament. They lost to Michigan, 73-69.

Mitchell averaged a team-best 15.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. His three-point shot must improve, as he averaged just over two three makes per game at a 35-percent clip.

Pacers point guard Jeff Teague is an unrestricted free agent, but someone they are seriously considering bring back. Depending on that, and if he’s in the budget, they could turn to a point guard like Mitchell to take over those duties or run with the second unit.
