If he’s still available at 18, when the Pacers are on the clock, John Collins would fill a need and be a guy the Indianapolis community would embrace.
Collins, a 6-9, 225-pound forward, puts his nose on the ball with a great rebounding instinct. It’s hard to teach that. He averaged 9.8 rebounds per game during his sophomore year at Wake Forest, up from 3.9 his first year in college.
Collins was nearly a double-double guy (19.2 points, 9.8 rebounds) for a team that finished 19-14 in the ACC. They beat No. 8 Louisville, lost to No. 12 Duke by two and five points, respectively, in their two head-to-head meetings, and won four of their final five regular season games.
He’s accurate around the hoop, a 62-percent shooter, but he can also stretch out to 18 feet. The Pacers ranked 26th in rebounding last year, so Collins would be helpful in that department.
