A lot happens each week with the Pacers and it’s not easy to stay on top of it. Introducing a new weekly feature, Pacers Last Week, which should help keep you up-to-date on all things Pacers.
Media day is just one week away…
- Victor Oladipo spent much of the week in New York, both working out with other NBA players at the local Lifetime Athletic, and doing media hits to promote his new song, Song For You.
- Oladipo also sent a truckload of bottled water down to Houston to help with Hurricane Harvey relief.
- Pacers Sports & Entertainment was honored as the International Citizen of the Year Wednesday night at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Former Pacers public address announcer Reb Porter’s voice was used.
- I had ex-Pacer Fred Jones on the podcast to talk about life after basketball, becoming a businessman, going back to complete his degree, and launching “Shoot 360 Indy” on Indy’s west side.
- Take a peak inside the new equipment room at the St. Vincent Center.
- The renovated gift shop is set to re-open on Sept. 29, the official website says.
- Michael Grady, the PA announcer for games since the 2010-11 season, is moving to New York. YES Network, part of the FOX Sports family, hired him to be the sideline reporter for Brooklyn Nets games.
- I saw Monta Ellis — who the Pacers waived and then stretched the remaining year of his contract — at the gym. He says he’s doing well, and is not yet sure of his next move.
- Mark Montieth, of Pacers.com and MarkMontieth.com, published “Reborn: The Pacers and the Return of Pro Basketball to Indianapolis.” It’s available now in local book stores, and on Amazon.
- Myles Turner appeared on ESPN’s The Jump and gave love to longtime assistant coach Dan Burke (with ex-Pacer Stephen Jackson on set.)
- On Friday night, Nike held a huge NBA event at Sony Pictures Studios — west of Los Angeles — to unveil “Statement Edition” uniforms. The Pacers’ version, modeled by Myles Turner, is their traditional gold uniform. Several Pacers executives were in attendance for the announcement.
- The gold “statement” jersey hits stores on Nov. 20. The other two uniforms already announced (white and blue) will be available on Sept. 29. Their fourth uniform will be a Hickory outfit for the third straight season. (Swingman jerseys are $110; authentic jerseys will cost $200.)
- Former Fever star Katie Douglas opened an Orangetheory Fitness in Greenwood last spring. She is planning to open a second location, in downtown Indianapolis, in 2018.
