Myles Turner to miss at least the next two games

UPDATE: 12:43 pm on Wednesday:

The Pacers will be without Myles Turner for at least the next two games due to a right elbow injury sustained Monday night. “Turner is being evaluated and an update will be provided when available,” the team announced.

Turner will miss games against Eastern Conference playoff foes Miami and Cleveland. Then, the team heads out west for a five-game road trip.

Pacers starting center Myles Turner is listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s home game against the Miami Heat due to a sore right elbow. The injury was sustained at the 7:09 mark of the first quarter in their 13-point win over Milwaukee on Monday.

Turner got the steal, raced down the floor, and then took off outside the restricted circle to complete the one-handed jam. It was as if he took out all of his frustration built up over the last two weeks on the rim.

“It was a couple things, man,” Turner told VigilantSports.com postgame. “I smoked an easy ass dunk in transition last game. I had to make up for that one. And two, it’s coach’s fault. During shootaround today, he was like, ‘Ay man, you get that ball and you need to take off from the free throw line.’

“I was like, ‘All right.’ So I tried and — yeah. Ahhh.” [Moans in pain.]

It was obvious that his right elbow bothered him the rest of the game. Two minutes after the dunk, he missed his first free throw attempt and then shook his right arm out as if it was asleep. His next try was good after missing his previous three attempts.

Turner was briefly evaluated on the bench in the first half by Associate Head Athletic Trainer Carl Eaton. After the win, Turner iced the elbow and said it was difficult to described how it felt. He ultimately settled on “sore,” and was unsure if he would need X-rays.

“It was tough but you got to push yourself through it,” Turner said. “I knew my team needed me out there. Domas [Domantas Sabonis], obviously, is a great fill in that void because he plays the game so well. It’s going to take a little bit more than that to keep me out.”

Sabonis landed hard on his shooting (left) wrist late in the game and X-rays were negative.

Turner suffered a concussion on opening night and then was sidelined for the next seven games. The Pacers went 4-3 during that stretch without him. He is averaging 13.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.
