Pacers Last Week: Mar. 5 — Big Ten invades BLF and sets record, update on Slick, Booker arrives in Indy

A lot happens each week with the Pacers and it’s not easy to stay on top of it. Pacers Last Week keeps you updated on everything going on with the franchise.

  • With Bankers Life Fieldhouse hosting the annual Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament last week, the Pacers went on the road for four in a row. After losses in Dallas and Atlanta, they earned wins against Eastern Conference playoff teams: Milwaukee and Washington.
  • While the Pacers were away, IU and Michigan State women’s teams battled to four overtimes — more extra sessions than any college or pro game in Fieldhouse history.
  • While in Atlanta, Lance Stephenson appeared on NBA TV Tuesday night.
  • I caught up with Slick Leonard, the former Pacers coach who most fans know as the radio analyst. He shattered his hip in early January and is hopeful to return before the end of the regular season. Listen to that podcast.
  • The Pacers assigned Ike Anigbogu to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, allowing for the young rookie, who is just 19, to play in the G League rather than sit the bench. He last played for the Pacers on Jan. 18 — for one minute in a road loss in Portland.
  • While on the G League, Dequan Jones was named G League Player of the Month for February. He averaged 26.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and shot 59.7 percent while scoring at least 26 points in six games, including a career-high 40 points in a win at Iowa. That capped off a memorable month for Jones, who won the G League Slam Dunk Contest in Los Angeles.
  • Trey McKinney Jones’ first-ever stint in the NBA ended Friday night in Milwaukee. Unfortunately for McKinney Jones, his 10-day contract wasn’t during a strong point of the Pacers’ season and thus he only played one minute over four games. But he didn’t get to be with the Pacers for a week and earn an extra $50,000 or so. [Click here to read my Q&A with TMJ]
  • I wrote about former Pacer Damien Wilkins tearing it up in the G League last month, clearly a man on a mission.
  • Veteran power forward Trevor Booker arrived at the St. Vincent Center, their less-than-year-old practice facility on Saturday and signed a contract for the rest of the season. With the Pacers coming off a four-game road trip and on the second night of a back-to-back, he’s expected to play for the first time on Wednesday against Utah.
  • Darren Collison (left knee surgery) remains out. There’s no immediate timetable for his return. He had his knee scoped on Feb. 6.
