Indy continues to do events better than anyone.
Ahead of the 2015 Men’s Final Four, which will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium on April 4 and 6, a 16-story NCAA Tournament bracket is going up on the East side of the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis, just blocks north of the stadium.
Remember 2012, when Indy hosted Super Bowl XLVI? Then, the Lombardi Trophy with the roman numerals for that year were on the side.
Not only is it a nice touch, but it is another example of a city fully embracing the event, and having it take over the city. Everything for the Final Four — the game, festivities, hotels, and restaurants — are right downtown, which is one of Indy’s great selling points.
“Indianapolis has a great history of hosting the NCAA Final Four and providing a one-of-a-kind championship experience for college athletes,” NCAA managing director of men’s basketball championships JoAn Scott said in a news release. “We want to get everyone excited for the Final Four and what better way to do this than by putting a larger-than-life bracket on display in the city.”
On Tuesday (March 3), Indy group Sports Graphics began installation of the 165-foot tall bracket and is expected to take about two weeks. It is about the size of nine basketball courts.
After Selection Sunday (March 15), once the teams in the field are known, their 4-foot high name plates will be put onto the bracket — and captured on video for all to see.
Each Monday through the end of the tournament, the bracket will be updated.
This bracket will not only grab the attention of folks downtown Indianapolis, but will also look beautiful when skyline shots are shown to millions on the television broadcasts. It’s also sure to receive millions of impressions on social media, especially as it’s updated after each round.
