Frank Vogel victorious in head coaching debut

A sparse crowd was on hand for Indiana’s 104-93 win over the Toronto Raptors to give Pacers interim head coach Frank Vogel his first win.

There seemed to be a different attitude on display. Not only from fans but players and team personnel.

The Pacers players played with a passion we hadn’t seen for a while. The hustle and effort was there but the fundamentals …

So much for retirement – Urban Meyer joins ESPN

Well that didn’t take long. Urban Meyer stepped down December 8, 2010 as the head coach of Florida football after six seasons.

But now he is getting back into the profession from a different angle, a television analyst. Meyer will join ESPN as a college football game and studio analyst. He will make his debut Wednesday as a studio analyst during ESPNU’s coverage of football …

Jim O’Brien fired as Pacers head coach – Frank Vogel named interim head coach

After much deliberation the Indiana Pacers have fired head coach Jim O’Brien. Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird met with O’Brien Sunday morning and discussed the direction of the team.

“I want to thank him for his three and a half years of service,” Larry Bird said in a 4 pm press conference. “He is going to be missed but we move on. Our …

Passing on the NBA Draft has proven to be the right decision for Purdue’s JaJuan Johnson

Not all collegiate stars make the right decision. Bypass their final years in college to jump into the big pond, the NBA.

Up until last May, Purdue center JaJuan Johnson thought he would forgo his senior season in West Lafayette to cash in at the next level. Something changed in the final days. On May 6th, I was told he thought his stock was high …

Celebrate we will. But rush the floor?

Last night’s 52-49 win over 20th ranked Illinois was enormous. In a few years down the road, after the probable future successes, IU fans may look back to January 27th, 2011 as a changing point.

Nonetheless rushing the floor after upsetting a 14-7 team is irrational. I would have rather seen Hoosier faithful rush Ross-Ade Stadium in November after Indiana knocked off Purdue to win …

Indiana upsets Illinois for biggest win of Crean era

The Hoosiers took it to heat tonight and upset 20th-ranked Illinois 52-49 in front of a sold out Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

Indiana was led by Jordan Hulls, who finished with 18 points (tying a season high) including four of five from 3-point range. Christian Watford tallied 16 points and 5 rebounds in the winning effort.

The difference may have been at the free throw …

Tom Crean Gets His First Win Over a Ranked Opponent: Indiana 52-49 over Illinois

According to John Harbaugh, coach of the Baltimore Ravens and brother-in-law of IU basketball coach Tom Crean, it was a night where Crean’s team “came of age.”

Prior to the his team’s matchup with No. 20 Illinois Thursday night at Assembly Hall, Crean said the Hoosiers would miss junior guard Verdell Jones III’s leadership. While the 42nd player to 1,000 points in IU history and …

Indiana stands at a fork in the road tonight against Illinois

It’s time to break out one of my favorite pictures from the real Assembly Hall. Bruce Weber understands he is hated in Bloomington and tonight the fans will go after him once again.

We will hear Weber complain all night…and we will hear fans subsequently chant “Shut up Weber!”

But now onto the big picture.

Indiana is at .500. It is tonight where they decide …
