IU’s Muniru Cleared to Play

The NCAA finally came out today and announced that Indiana 7-foot freshman center Bawa Muniru has been cleared to play. The NCAA was examining his tests scores and until a verdict was announced, Muniru was unable to play.

Tom Crean today said via his twitter account, that “Our Coaching staff and every person that works with us in compliance and eligibility went the 2nd mile for Bawa. Alot of paperwork.”

Much is unknown about Bawa’s game and what he will add. Our first look at his game will be Monday, November 9th against Saint Joseph’s (of Indiana) at Assembly Hall. Muniru is part of a 2009 recruiting class that is recognized as the best in the Big Ten and one of the top ten nationally. His 7-foot height and 7’3” wingspan certainly will add another inside presence to this guard-heavy team.

Notes from the IU media release:
The 6-11, 260-lb center from Tumu, Ghana was the #111th rated recruit in 2009 and the 14th best center. He averaged 16.6 points and 8.9 rebounds as a senior at Madison (Ala.) Academy and attended Mount Zion Academy a year ago.
