The folks at Assembly Hall have changed the atmosphere prior to an Indiana University men’s basketball game. Each game, with about 15 minutes until the national anthem and starting lineups, the lights are turned off and two videos are played. The first being the old mop lady commercial.
This year, the marketing staff led by Pat Kraft brought back the famous mop lady. What made it even better (from an IU standpoint) is that IU brought on a sponsor. The historical video is presented by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance. A strong sponsorship for both parties.
After the mop lady, quotes from former Indiana players and coaches are heard and then the team heads out onto the court with Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve playing.
Then prior to player introductions, a video displaying the history of Indiana basketball with highlights is played with U2’s Where The Streets Have No Name in the background. The crowd always cheers loud when former head coach Bob Knight is shown.
Let the game begin!
Well done. Very impressive by IU.
thanks for sharing. Genius, now if only they show “this is Indiana!”
