Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee did a video chat with his fans Sunday evening for over two hours.
Many unique topics were brought up like his canal incident, punting in the NFL, his favorite music and his offseason plans.
However one of the most interesting subjects McAfee touched on was the possible NFL lockout coming March 4th. The NFL owners want more money, regulations and an 18 game schedule.
That’s when the Colts punter jumped in and said, “nobody wants an 18 game schedule. It’s good for nobody.”
The Colts felt some of that this season with all of their injuries. Indy led the league with the most players on injured-reserve, ending up with 18 members. Add two more meaningful games and careers are shortened. It also makes it more challenging for players on the field says McAfee.
“When people get injured, you lose a lot of people for special teams. Those are my guys that provide the coverage. At the end of the season, I just tried to get fair catches rather than get my balls returned to the house every time.”
Essentially the collective bargaining agreement contract expires on March 3rd at 11:59 pm and it is up to the players and owners to agree. Everybody around the league is worried about the potential loss of games and the money involved.
The most telling quote tonight from McAfee was about the lockout.
"There’s going to be a lockout. I think you guys should know that. It’s definitely going to happen.”
