Osama bin Laden dead. Finally.
We all have waiting so long to read those words. Almost 10 years after the day none of us will ever forget, September 11, 2001.
Nearly 3,000 people died on that day from this man and their terrorist attacks.
The words won’t get old. Osama bin Laden. Dead.
United States troops killed bin Laden Sunday after troops were sent to Abbotabad, Pakistan, which is 40 miles from Islamabadan. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took care of his body.
Special operation forces had been tracking Osama bin Laden for almost a decade. President Obama said that the U.S. first received a tip in August about bin Laden’s whereabouts. After careful planning, he was shot at least once in the head by the U.S. Navy Seals.
(Note: The best article on the whole raid is by Bill Dedman on MSNBC.com: US tracked couriers to an elaborate bin Laden compound).
Amazing statistic here: May 1, 1945: Hitler confirmed dead. May 1, 2011: bin Laden confirmed dead.
I remember where I was and what I was doing like it was yesterday. I was in the sixth grade, and about to get up for school. My mom rushed in to get me up and immediately I was in a dazed and confused state.
Would someone actually be so cruel and so evil-minded to intentionally fly a plane into the World Trade Center.
Not just once, but twice. I saw the second plane hit live and I was dumbfounded. Speechless.
I then went on to school and talked about it in literally every class. Some teachers allowed us to watch the monumental day. Days went on, years went on, and finally we can celebrate not his death but justice.
It is these times where we should especially give thanks to our troops, military leaders and political figures. This was a joint effort that took strategic planning and cooperation to get done.
President Obama said it best at the end of his speech, “When America sets it’s minds to something, it can do whatever it wants to do.” After all, that is part of the American dream.
This isn’t the end of the things, but the world is a lot better off.
