Matt Painter at Purdue must be complimented on his recruiting. Not only is he getting some quality talent, but he took over the reigns of dominating in-state talent. No longer does Indiana year after year get the state’s best players. On the Boilers roster, 13 of 17 players are from Indiana. That where it starts.
A look at Tom Crean’s two recruits thus far – Florida and Maryland. Obviously Crean believes he can get the top talent, but not yet. He tried at Kyrie Irving, Josh Selby, and Jelan Kendrick and all passed. Crean must get this program back its feet and have substantial success before the nation’s best recruits would consider IU. None of these players were even alive the last time Indiana won a national championship in 1987. History and tradition mean little to these guys that want to come in with the NBA in sight.
Time will tell. As for Indiana fans, they are desperate for wins and Indiana fans are desperate for wins and desiring to compete in the NCAA tournament like they were once use to.
