Bobby Capobianco transferring from Indiana

Bobby Capobianco has decided to transfer from Indiana the school announced in a statement Friday.

The 6-9 sophomore averaged one point, one rebound and six minutes of action a game. He saw the floor in 27 of the 32 games last season.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining but will have to sit out next year because of transferring.

“Bobby has decided to go for a fresh start and transfer to a school where he can have three years to play two” head coach Tom Crean said in a statement.

This move is no shock to Hoosier fans. It is a matter of supply and demand—unfortunately for him, he was the man at the end of the totem pole.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Indiana, but I want to look for an opportunity to further my basketball and academic career at another institution.,” Capobianco said. “I value the experience that I have had here and appreciate everything the coaches and basketball staff have done for me. I am looking forward to this new chapter, and will always have very strong feelings for my teammates, coaches and everyone associated with IU.”

Crean continued…“He has indicated he would like the opportunity to find a program where he can get more playing time and continue his education. We will help him accomplish this move in any way that we can and we all really want to see Bobby be successful. My hope is that he finds a school like Indiana, that puts a prominent emphasis in academics as it does in basketball, as he has done an excellent job here in the classroom. He will be an asset to whatever program he chooses and we wish him the best as he moves to this next stage in life.”

He is currently enrolled in the first summer school session (which ends June 17th) and will complete those studies in mid-June before transferring. Capobianco was a sports communication major with an emphasis in broadcast.

The Hoosiers add three freshmann next year: Cody Zeller, Austin Etherington and Remy Abell.

This change allows IU to oversign one for the highly-touted 2012 class. Crean already has five commitments and if he wants to add another, another player must go. A lot more will happen from now until then.
