Ike Anigbogu has been assigned to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the G League. This timing is ideal as the Mad Ants have a four-game homestand over the next dozen days.
Anigbogu is the first Pacer to be assigned to the Mad Ants this season. Alex Poythress and Edmond Sumner, both of whom are on a two-way deal, have yet to suit up for the Pacers’ G League affiliate. (Sumner due to injury rehabilitation.)
From October 2: Anigbogu scrimmages for the first time
By joining the Mad Ants, he’ll be thrusted right into the starting lineup and will allow for him to get additional playing time.
That’s the biggest challenge for young players in the NBA. If they are outside the rotation, they get out of game shape and typically are a limited participant in practice. And that’s why it’s imperative for someone like Anigbogu to work before and after practice, and on his own time.
Anigbogu, the 47th overall pick in last June’s draft out of UCLA, has appeared in six games for the 6-8 Pacers – never playing more than five minutes in one game.
He scored his first career points (4) on Oct. 31 in a 101-83 win over Sacramento. Afterwards, he discussed it in the locker room saying, “This moment I’ll never forget.”
Interesting to observe Thad Young have a teaching moment with rookie Ike Anigbogu postgame. He shared with him how he'll get to a point where he knows every player's responsibility with each offensive set.
