Marquis Teague is back in the NBA and will remain on the Memphis Grizzlies’ roster for their final five games of the 2017-18 season. The Pike High School product signed a rest-of-season-contract Tuesday after his 10-day contract expired.
The 25-year-old point guard has spent all but the last few weeks this season in the NBA G League with the Grizzlies’ affiliate, the Memphis Hustle. While there, he started in all 47 games and averaged 17.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. He shot 45.7 percent from the field and 42.7 percent from range.
Last Friday’s game in Utah was notable, a surely memorable for him. It was his first regular-season NBA game since April 16, 2014 while a member of the Brooklyn Nets.
Marquis is four grades younger than brother Jeff Teague, the former Pacer.
Over the last three seasons, the Chicago Bulls’ first-round pick in 2012 has spent time overseas and in the G League. The Pacers’ G League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, acquired him via trade with Oklahoma City on March 7, 2017, but then they lost their rights to him in the offseason as part of the G League Expansion Draft.
The Grizzlies (21-56), who own the second-worst record in the NBA, originally called up Teague and signed him to a 10-day contract on March 24. They will not participate in the NBA playoffs for the first time in eight years.
