Source: Glenn Robinson III reaches agreement on two-year deal with Detroit Pistons

Glenn Robinson III, Detroit Pistons, Former Pacers

Unrestricted free agent Glenn Robinson III has reached agreement on a two-year, $8.35 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, league source told VigilantSports.com.

He will earn $4.075 million guaranteed for the 2018-19 season and the deal includes a team option for year two.

This deal was finalized early Sunday afternoon, just 13 hours into the start of free agency. This was expected considering the lack of cap space available across the league.

GRIII is returning to familiar territory. The Gary, Indiana native played two years at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, then was taken 40th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft after his sophomore season.

Robinson III’s fourth season in the NBA shortened due to an ankle injury, which required surgery, during training camp. He appeared in 23 games and averaged 4.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. He was fully expecting to be part of the rotation and challenge for a starting spot.

But Robinson III, who’s just 24 years old, didn’t make his season debut until February 23rd and was not a part of their rotation in the playoffs, playing just five minutes total in seven games.

His confidence soared after he won the 2017 Slam Dunk Contest in New Orleans. He told VigilantSports.com earlier this year that he plans to defend his title.

Robinson III has a home in Zionsville, Indiana and has been working out daily at The Barn, just eight minutes from his home, with basketball trainer Joey Burton.

This deal — and all others — cannot be signed until the conclusion of the NBA’s moratorium on July 6.
