Amber Harris determined to make WNBA roster

Amber Harris is back home in Indianapolis and focused on making it back in the WNBA.

After having surgery and then playing overseas, Harris was in camp last month with the Minnesota Lynx, the team that selected the North Central product fourth overall in the 2011 draft. She started in their lone preseason game on May 27th but did not score (0-for-4 shooting). She finished with four rebounds and one block in 17 minutes.

Two days later, Minnesota trimmed its roster and she was released. A matter of personnel, scheme, and injuries made it difficult for her to get it going on one of the better teams in the league. (She missed the entire 2014 season due to injury.)

Now in Indianapolis, Harris is working out with Christopher Thomas, the founder and owner of 100% Hoops, LLC. She has dropped about 40 pounds over the last year.

Harris stopped by the Jewish Community Center of Indianapolis on Wednesday to support Eric Gordon, her friend and former high school classmate, as he hosted his seventh annual basketball camp.

While there for more than an hour, Harris told VigilantSports.com that although she has offers to play overseas, she’s working hard and holding out hope for a roster spot in the WNBA. She sees herself playing the ‘4,’ or even the ‘3’ in certain situations.

Harris, Indiana’s Miss Basketball in 2006, was part of two WNBA Championship teams with the Lynx in 2011 and 2013. Her hometown Indiana Fever upset the Lynx for the 2012 title.
