Andrew Luck is finally signed, sealed and delivered…as promised by Colts owner Jim Irsay.
One day after Robert Griffin III signed his deal with the Washington Redskins, Luck has now signed his.
Terms of the deal were not announced but Luck is expected to receive a four-year, $22.1 million deal with a team-option for the fifth year. His signing bonus is $14.5 million.
In comparison, Peyton Manning’s first contract was worth $48 million.
The snag, according to multiple reports, was off-set language that would protect the Colts should they cut him before his contract was up. If the very unlikely chance he is cut and another team pick him up, the Colts wouldn’t owe him whatever he earns with a new team.
It’s important, especially with a young and inexperienced team, for these players to get as much practice time as possible. The rookies will take part in a three-day rookie camp before the rest of the team reports to Anderson July 28th.
Colts camp runs from July 29th through August 17th.
Just about a week out from training camp, Luck has his deal done and can finally relax with this big weight off his shoulder. Being the top-pick, he knew what he was going to earn as defined by the new collective bargaining agreement. Last week, he worked out with receivers Reggie Wayne, Donnie Avery and Griff Whalen at the University of Miami.
The horseshoes have now signed eight of ten draft picks, with second-round TE Coby Fleener and third-round TE Dwayne Allen both still needing to sign the dotted line.
Luck, and the dozens of new Colts players, will play their first game in a Colts uniform Sun., Aug. 12 against St. Louis in a preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
