Arsenal Tech High School’s signboard reminds others to ‘Say Thank You To #41 Trey Lyles’

The Utah Jazz were in Indianapolis on Sunday in advance of their annual visit to Bankers Life Fieldhouse to face the Pacers. The Jazz (43-27) are having a great season and are currently fourth in the Western Conference standings. But they have lost two in a row entering Monday’s tilt, which is their fourth road game in six days.

I’ve playfully referred to the Jazz at Indy West because the roster features three kids from Central Indiana, plus an adopted Hoosier in Shelvin Mack, who played at Butler. The three native Hoosiers, of course, are George Hill (Broad Ripple), Gordon Hayward (Brownsburg), and Trey Lyles (Arsenal Tech).

It may just be a coincidence, but as I drove past Tech High School Sunday afternoon, I couldn’t help but notice the rotating digital sign out front. It had about six messages rotating on a timer, including one that read “Say Thank You to #41 Trey Lyles!!!”

Now, this could have been a timely message knowing that Lyles would be in town through Monday. Or perhaps it has been up since the 2014 graduate and Indiana Mr. Basketball donated $20,000 back to his alma mater.

The presentation captured above came at halftime of Tech’s game against Carmel.

Calls to the school on Monday were not answered, presumably of Spring Break.

Lyles, a 2014 McDonald’s All-American, played one year at the University of Kentucky (2014-15) and then was taken 12th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Jazz.
