Mitchell retires Thad Young’s high school jersey; Young upgrades school’s weight room

Back in Memphis, Tennessee with the Pacers to play the Grizzlies Wednesday night (8:00 pm ET), Thad Young spent the night before back at his old stomping grounds.

Joined by his immediate family, Young’s No. 33 jersey was retired by Mitchell High School and he was presented with a framed jersey that detailed his accomplishments – on and off the basketball court.

Like his 4.3 …

Pacers Last Week: Nov. 13 — Pacers honor troops, McMillan Bowl, Sloan is up, Chicago to host 2020 All-Star Game

A lot happens each week with the Pacers and it’s not easy to stay on top of it. Introducing a new weekly feature, Pacers Last Week, which should help keep you up-to-date on all things Pacers.

I purposefully waited a day later to post this, rather than the usual 5:00 am Monday morning, to observe if it got any traction and to see if readers …

Q&A with Eric Gordon — on what has clicked in Houston

Indy native Eric Gordon scored 21 points in a 118-95 Houston Rockets (11-3) win over the Pacers Sunday evening.

This was EJ’s annual visit back home with his NBA team. Having played for only Western Conference teams — Los Angeles (Clippers), New Orleans, and now Houston — he faces the Pacers in Indianapolis just once per season.

Now 28, he is healthy and still in …

VIDEO: Thad Young rips jersey in frustration

Game in and game out, we have come to expect consistent play from Thad Young. He’s good for almost 15 points and six rebounds per game, plus numerous hustle plays that stand out.

He’s Mr. Consistent. That’s why his performance Sunday was strange to see.

We saw frustration from the 11-year veteran who has played 11-plus years in the NBA. Not only does he know …

Running thoughts: Rockets 118, Pacers 95

Here are my running thoughts from the Pacers’ 118-95 loss to the Houston Rockets Sunday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Curtains above the balcony levels are pulled back. That’s always a cool look. Eric Gordon is looking trim. He’s become a reliable contributor now that he’s healthy. And with Chris Paul missing time, he has thrived in the starting lineup. Paul hasn’t played since the…

Ep. 68: Mark Montieth Part II – on his latest book

This is part II of my conversation with Mark Montieth, who has covered the Indiana Pacers for several decades.

[Part I – On the Pacers’ encouraging start to the 2017-18 season]

Mark recently published “Reborn: The Pacers and the Return of Pro Basketball to Indianapolis” — and it’s a book I recommend for hoops fans in our great state of Indiana. This book documents the …

Lance Stephenson finds his groove

Through the first ten games, Lance Stephenson’s play was the only true disappointment. Chemistry, defensive play, and late wins will come in time. He clearly wasn’t himself though.

Stephenson went from “too hyped” to stop thinking and focused on rebounding and finding open teammates. That’s where he builds confidence and leads to positive plays on offense.

Playing the sixth man role this season, Stephenson had …

Running thoughts: Pelicans 117, Pacers 112

Here are my running thoughts from the Pacers’ 117-112 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans Tuesday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Solomon Hill, the Pacers’ 2013 first-round pick, remains out after offseason hamstring surgery (ouch, I know!) He did not make the trip back to Indy. Pacers observed a moment of silence before the game for the innocent victims of the recent tragedies in Las…
