Bill Benner to be inducted into Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame

He’s had a voice in Indianapolis for over 30 years and now works for one of the professional sports teams in town.

Bill Benner, a former sportswriter for 33 years at the Indianapolis Star, will be inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame at the association’s annual award banquet scheduled for Sunday, April 9th at Valle Vista Golf Club in Greenwood.

Benner is a lifelong Hoosier.

Benner joined the Pacers on November 18, 2013, taking over for Greg Schenkel, who retired. He served as a beat writer covering the Pacers for the Indianapolis Star from 1974-79. Years later, from 1990 through 2001, he was a sports columnist at the paper.

In addition to his current role with the Pacers as Senior Vice President/Corporate/Community & Public Relations, Benner hosts a weekly segment on Inside Indiana Business.

Benner is a lifelong Hoosier — a graduate of both Center Grove High School and Indiana University.

Chris Denari, the Television Voice of the Pacers on FOX Sports Indiana, went into ISSA’s Hall of Fame in 2016.

Benner is one of six individuals going into ISSA’s 22nd Hall of Fame Class, joining the other 105 Hall of Famers.
