Bill Polian has never been a fan of the media. He’s called them every bad name, and then some.
Pundits. Media heads. Bloggers. Rats.
I can only imagine what he says behind closed doors.
After being fired as Colts Vice Chairman on Jan. 2nd, Polian has landed a new gig — with the media — three weeks later.
As one of the top minds in the NFL, Polian will regularly host shows on SiriusXM Radio. Just in time for the Super Bowl in Indianapolis, he will make his debut on Monday night with former NFL quarterback Jim Miller as his co-host. The two will also be on the air Wednesday and Friday.
At least he picked a national entity, because we all know he has no interest in the local media.
What I never understood in his time with the Colts, was why he hosted a weekly radio and later, television show. I look at other teams in the NFL and on the the professional level and it’s always the head coach out front, having his own show.
Bill Polian liked to be the top voice and have the ultimate say. Players have since admitted, that they wanted to go for the perfect season in 2009, but it was Polian who said no.
There’s no questioning his resume and his knowledge for the game. He was a general manager for 24 seasons, with stops in Buffalo, Carolina and most recently, Indianapolis.
Once fired by Jim Irsay, a relationship of mutual respect, immediately I expected Polian to join a television network. And that may still be the case.
For now, he’ll make regular appearances on SiriusXM and share his insights. But don’t be surprised if he joins FOX or ESPN in a role very similar to Charley Casserly, another former general manager, on CBS.
